Quire Paper / Finance & money math / Budget by Paycheck
For Excel & Google Sheets

Know what's safe to spend from every single check.

Monthly budgets lie to people who get paid biweekly. Budget by Paycheck maps all 26 checks, lands every bill on the check that pays it, and answers the only question that matters on payday: after the bills and set-asides, what's actually mine?

Budget by Paycheck cover

A month is a fiction.
A paycheck is a fact.

The actual workbook

This is the dashboard itself — not a mockup.

As it opens in Excel or Google Sheets: the paycheck selector and safe-to-spend card up top, the cobalt totals ribbon, this check's bills with paid checkmarks and a running remainder, and every upcoming check's number down the right.

How it works

Four numbers per bill. One answer per payday.

Set it up once in the planner, then live on the dashboard — no formulas to write, nothing to maintain.

01

List your paychecks

Twenty-six rows, dates chained automatically every 14 days from your first check — adjust any date or amount and the rest follow.

02

Register your bills

Up to 60 bills and set-asides: name, amount, due day. The sheet suggests which paycheck each bill lands on; an override column lets you move any bill to any check.

03

Pick a check, read the answer

The dashboard selector shows any check's bills, set-asides, percent spoken for — and the big green SAFE TO SPEND number.

04

Watch the remainder fall

Each bill row shows what's left after it clears, landing exactly on your safe-to-spend figure. The math proves itself on screen.

05

Mark bills paid

A paid column tracks what's cleared; STILL TO PAY shows what this check still owes. Overspend a check and the number turns red — no surprises.

06

See the next checks coming

An upcoming panel shows every future paycheck's spoken-for and safe numbers — heavy checks stop being ambushes.
